Trauma Recovery

549656056You want to “move on” from the past…

But you’re realizing it’s not that simple.

Just thinking about it is overwhelming; the images and emotions flood back, making it feel like it’s happening all over again.

Growing up, you probably didn’t have the support you needed to process what happened. Now, you’re carrying around all these heavy questions and emotions.

These burdens are taking a toll on your health and keeping you from living life to the fullest.

Most people have no idea how hard it is.

You don’t feel safe – not even in your own body.

Maybe you blame yourself for what happened…

Or you feel you’re “not good enough” or undeserving of a rich, happy life.

You know the highs and lows are negatively affecting your life, but what do you do??

1036908469Counseling can help you find your feet again.

Therapy is the ideal place to dive into the depths of who you are. I understand exploring past experiences can be hard, so you get to say if, when, and how you disclose your past to me.

But digging is important to help you heal. It will give us insight into how what’s happening in your mind and body now is connected to pain in the past; that’s how you’ll heal and move forward.

One tool I use in therapy to help you safely explore past trauma is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). If you would like to know more about how it works, please visit my ART page.

No matter what tool we use, therapy is a safe space to process what happened, release unresolved feelings, and make room for the best version of yourself to take the lead.

The light at the end of the tunnel…

Through therapy, you’ll learn to control your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. No more using your energy to avoid triggers or suppress your body’s responses.

And you won’t have to worry about your peace of mind being hijacked by sudden or confusing responses to things around you.

You’ll feel assured in who you are and live a life of joy and peace.

What I experienced wasn’t as bad as what others have gone through. Would counseling still be appropriate?

Yes! It’s common to compare our experiences to others, but that’s not the point of counseling. Counseling is for anyone wanting to explore their situation, understand themselves better, and gain control of their emotions.

Do I have to disclose everything that happened to me in the first session?

You get to decide when you share information with me. In the first few sessions, I may ask questions about past experiences to get a sense of how they impact your current emotions and reactions. But you don’t have to disclose anything you aren’t ready to share. We cover many other areas in the first few sessions, so we don’t have to go too deep into any one thing if you don’t want to.

How long is treatment?

It depends on several factors. Some people reach their goals in a few months; others find longer-term therapy beneficial. This is something we discuss throughout treatment.

The past doesn’t have to control your life forever.

I know change can be scary – even when it’s a positive change like healing or growth.

But you’re not alone in this. I’m here to support you every step of the way.

We’re going to have you thriving in life again!
